Time for a DVD review, though Pitch Perfect came out last year. When I first heard of this movie, I had no idea it would become such a hit. After painfully watching Glee for two seasons, I was a bit wary of a cappella and I thought that was mainly all the film was about. Then I started to hear people quote Fat Amy and my cousin insisted that she teach me the “cup song”, and I knew that this movie must be better than I expected. Boy, was I right!
Pitch Perfect is about an all-girl college a cappella group, the Barden Bellas, striving to be the best, but after a disastrous performance at the previous year’s finals, they are forced to regroup. In comes freshman Beca (Anna Kendrick), a headstrong, aspiring DJ who has no interest in the college life, but does have an amazing voice. Soon after meeting Jesse (Skylar Astin), from the rival all-male a cappella group, Beca has a new outlook and takes it upon herself to help the Bellas find a new look and sound and get back into the competition. The other Barden Bellas include Aubrey (Anna Camp), Chloe (Brittany Snow), Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson), Stacie (Alexis Knapp), Cynthia Rose (Ester Dean), and Lilly (Hana Mae Lee).
Two words that mainly sum up this film: FAT AMY. She made the movie! Rebel Wilson shines as Fat Amy, whose gut-wrenching humor and amazing mermaid dance moves make her memorable quotes live on forever. I loved her and seriously cannot get enough of her. Another thing I loved about this movie, was how each of the Barden Bellas was funny in their own way. You can’t help but love all of them and the character development of the group was well written. Anna Kendrick was good too; however, her character got on my nerves sometimes throughout the film. Though, there’s no argument that she can sing! Who knew she was so good?

I mentioned earlier in the review that I was never a huge fan of a cappella, but the musical numbers in the film were great. I honestly like some of the groups’ covers better than the originals. I recommend the soundtrack all the way. First and foremost though, I recommend the movie, because not only does it have comedy and catchy music numbers, but also a cute romance, lovable characters, and finally Rebel Wilson.
ALL IN ALL: Pitch Perfect is an original and hilarious film, that’s highlighted with its cast, humor, and songs.
